How to attach a Pom Pom

Things you will need

Things you will need

Things you will need:
  • a beanie
  • one Pom Pom
  • scissors
  • a metal tapestry needle (big enough to thread the yarn)
  • a ruler (but not necessary)
  • one piece of left over yarn or thread, approx. 25cm long
Step One

Step One

First step is to thread the needle with a piece of yarn. You will need about 25 cms of yarn. Match the yarn colour to your beanie. Insert the needle into the base of the Pom Pom (the flat, non-fluffy side). Start from about 2 cms from the centre of the Pom Pom.
Step Two

Step Two

Push the needle through the centre of the Pom Pom, coming out the side another 2 cms. In total you will need about 3-4 cms of distance between the entry and exit points of the needle and thread. Do not tie the yarn in a knot. Leave it loose.
Step Three

Step Three

Thread the needle through the beanie, through to the underneath side. You will need to do this about 2 cms from the centre of the beanie. Take the needle off the first end of the thread and thread from the other end. Repeat on the other side, again starting 2 cms from the centre of the beanie. You need at least 4-5 cms across. This is very important as it will ensure your Pom Pom is stable on your beanie and doesn't 'bobble' around too much.
Step Four

Step Four

Now turn the beanie inside out. You will see the two ends. Pull them tight and knot, so the Pom Pom is nice and secure in place.
Step Five

Step Five

Tie the end tightly together. A double knot works well as you can pull the knot apart to attach your Pom Pom to another beanie. This distance of the yarn being threaded, of about 4-5 cms across the top of the top of the beanie, is very important. This will ensure your Pom Pom sits flat against the beanie fabric, helping the Pom Pom to be more stable and to ensure it does not 'bobble' around.
